Learn more: Chinese Medicine to treat COVID – acute and chronic

Over 2000 years of empiric (observational) research informs the pattern-recognition basis of Chinese medical diagnosis. Chinese medicine recognizes the COVID-induced pathophysiology, “Epidemic Heat Illness”, and offers both herbal and acupuncture options for managing all phases of this illness: prevention, the various acute presentations, and convalescence. Our goal is to make you feel more comfortable, and to minimize lung scarring should this virus take hold

John K Chen PhD, author of the definitive Chinese herbal medicine textbook in English, graciously correlated 3 published, comprehensive recommendations for the acupuncture & Chinese herbal management of the various stages of COVID infection. These protocols were published by Wuhan Hospital, as well as by the Hubei Provincial and Chinese National governments. He has, since the beginning of COVID, tirelessly and generously shared his academic insights and treatment guidelines with the greater Asian medicine–practicing community

Now, with telemedicine, Chinese herbal medicine practitioners can help manage this or any other condition managed by physicians. Using a combination of your medical history and tongue diagnosis, providers prescribe herbs and may demonstrate acupuncture points for you to use at home. Depending upon your circumstances, press needles, very short (ear) needles, laser, moxabustion, and/or seeds can be sent your home, along with detailed (video) instructions on how, when and where to treat your own acupuncture points at home

Doubled boarded in Family Medicine and Medical Acupuncture, Dr Villanova has been certified to practice acupuncture for 22 years, and certified in Chinese herbal medicine for over 12. She served as the Physician Advisor to the North Carolina Acupuncture Licensing Board until 2017. Her practice combines western (allopathic) medicine with the traditional medical systems of China and India. She also includes some western therapies in her practice, such as trigger point therapy for muscular pain and homeopathic treatments for sinus conditions
